So what can you do between visits to keep your child’s smile on track? Here are simple, practical tips to make dental care easier - and more enjoyable - for the whole family.
Kids are more likely to brush when they understand why it’s important. Explain that brushing twice a day removes “sugar bugs” that cause cavities and toothaches.
While our team shows proper techniques during your child’s dental visits in Polaris, it helps to reinforce those habits at home. For children under age six, parents should supervise brushing and assist when needed. Brushing together as a family is a great way to model healthy habits.
If brushing feels like a chore, kids will resist it. Try:
- A colorful or character-themed electric toothbrush
- A two-minute brushing song or timer
- A reward chart for consistent brushing
- A child dental app on your phone or tablet
When brushing feels like a game instead of a task, kids are more likely to stay consistent.

Sealants are thin, protective coatings placed over the chewing surfaces of back teeth. The process is quick, comfortable, and very effective at preventing cavities.
