Teeth Cleanings in Polaris, Ohio

Maintaining optimum oral health can be accomplished by regular brushing and flossing at home, but having your teeth cleaned at Parkway Family Dental in Polaris, Ohio at least every 6 months is also important. Dr. Moosa and his hygienists play a pivotal role in identifying problems before they get worse, as well as keeping you healthy and maintaining a healthy mouth!

What is a teeth cleaning?

Getting your teeth cleaned is something that is routine in every dental practice. Your Registered Dental Hygienist at Parkway Family Dental will complete your cleaning at least twice per year. Cleaning your teeth involves the removal of plaque, tarter, & surface staining - all of which build up over time. Even the most dedicated of brushers and flossers benefit from regular teeth cleanings, as there are areas that can easily be missed or hard to access. This is where the buildup happens over time which can only be removed by a dental professional. Leaving tartar or calculus on your teeth can result in periodontal disease.

Why is it important to have teeth cleanings?

By having consistent teeth cleanings you can prevent common dental issues like gum disease and cavities. When your dental professionals at Parkway Family Dental have the opportunity to remove the harmful build up and monitor your oral health, they can often catch issues at the start before they get larger or turn into a bigger, more expensive problem. Dental cleanings also contribute to a fresh breath, a whiter, brighter smile and your overall physical health, which our mouths are heavily connected to.

What happens if I miss a teeth cleaning?

When teeth cleaning appointments are missed this allows more time for plaque and tartar to build up. By doing this the risk of gum inflammation, cavities, and even conditions like gum disease are much higher. Leaving this harmful bacteria untreated can cause bleeding gums, bad breath, discomfort and even teeth/bone loss. Skipping these routine appointments leaves the problems undetected which can often result in more complex treatment options to regain proper oral health.

What to expect during a teeth cleaning:

During your teeth cleaning, your hygienist at Parkway Family Dental will start by removing the plaque and tartar from your teeth and around the gum line followed by polishing your teeth. Being an office that values high technology, we will be able to perform any necessary digital xrays, intra oral photos, intra oral scans, and even a panorex or 3D scan of your jaw. Dr. Moosa also performs an oral cancer screening and will check for any cavities or fractures as well as any TMJ concerns.

How to prevent tooth decay:

Tooth decay starts from our daily habits; Dr. Moosa and his team of hygienists will educate you on Form and Frequency. You play a major part in your oral health when you limit not only the type of sugary drinks and snacks but also the frequency with which you consume them! When it comes to your oral hygiene, brushing at least twice a day with an electric toothbrush and flossing is still the gold standard. Regular dental visits allow for early detection and preventive care, helping you avoid more serious dental issues down the road.

How much does a teeth cleaning cost?

The price for getting a teeth cleaning can vary depending on where you go, insurance you may have or the location you are in. For patients with “good” dental insurance, routine cleanings are typically covered in full or with little cost to the patient. But don’t worry if you don’t have insurance! We offer a membership plan which includes your cleanings, exams, xrays, and fluoride treatment twice a year!

Are there different types of teeth cleanings?

There are cleanings for all levels of needs. We perform an annual gum charting in order to diagnose the condition of your oral health. A routine cleaning is typically referred to as a prophylaxis with the intent to prevent gum disease and maintain a healthy mouth. In the presence of gum disease, we will typically try to start with non surgical gum therapy (often called Scaling and Root Planing or a deeper cleaning). It is important to note the gum disease is not curable and can only be maintained, which is why we do a periodontal maintenance procedure every 3-4 months after your initial gum therapy.

Your dental team at Parkway Family Dental will do a full assessment of your teeth, gums, and bones in order to determine the treatment that best serves your needs!
